Curated shortlists

If you know what kind of sourcing you're doing, skip the directory and start with one of these. Each list is editorially maintained for a specific buyer context.

How we evaluate every marketplace

Every entry in this directory goes through the same four-point editorial review — applied identically to free listings and sponsored placements. A platform paying us doesn't change its review score; it only changes where it can be promoted on the site.

The goal is honest signal, not exhaustive coverage. If a platform doesn't meet our criteria, it doesn't appear at all.

1
Verification
How does the platform vet suppliers? Document checks, factory audits, third-party authentication, or self-declaration? The strongest predictor of buyer outcome.
2
Reach
Active buyer and supplier counts. Cross-border versus domestic concentration. A small platform with deep coverage of your category beats a huge platform thin in it.
3
Economics
Free, commission, subscription, or listing fee — and what it actually costs to use as a seller after the headline pricing. We surface real economics, not marketing claims.
4
Field test
We send sample sourcing inquiries through each platform. We measure response rate, reply time, and reply quality. This is the criterion most directories skip.

Common questions

The questions buyers and sellers ask most often before using a B2B marketplace.

Which is the best B2B marketplace for global sourcing?+
For broad global sourcing, Alibaba remains the default for scale and Global Sources for verification depth. For specific industries or regions, the right answer changes — pharmaceutical sourcing benefits from Pharmaoffer, North American manufacturing from ThomasNet, and European wholesale from Europages or Ankorstore. Use the region and industry filters in the sidebar to narrow by your actual sourcing need.
What's the difference between verified and unverified marketplaces?+
Verified marketplaces conduct supplier checks including business licence verification, factory audits, or third-party authentication. Partial verification means checks are applied inconsistently. Unverified means suppliers self-declare with minimal oversight. The Verified+ badge marks platforms where verification is rigorous enough to be a meaningful trust signal in itself.
Are B2B marketplaces free to use?+
For buyers, most major B2B marketplaces are free to browse and contact suppliers. For sellers, fee models vary: free with paid premium tiers (Alibaba, IndiaMART), subscription-only access (Global Sources Gold), commission per transaction (Faire), or pure listing fees (Europages). Filter by fee model in the sidebar to see each platform's structure.
Can a marketplace pay to rank higher in this directory?+
No. Sponsored placements receive a visible badge and a subtle highlight in the table, but the sponsorship does not affect the editorial review score or position in the default Editor's Rank sort. The sponsored badge means the marketplace is paying for visibility; it does not mean they paid for a better rating.
What does "Editor's Choice" mean?+
Editor's Choice marks marketplaces we would recommend without hesitation in their primary sourcing context. There are currently 5 Editor's Choice platforms across the directory — they're not a "top 5" overall but rather the platforms we'd send a friend to, given a specific sourcing need.
How often is the directory updated?+
Listings are reviewed monthly. New marketplaces are added when they meet our editorial criteria. Each listing carries a last-reviewed timestamp on its detail page. Major directory-wide updates happen on the first Monday of each month; minor corrections happen continuously.
